They are a fruit that has a greenish skin. It is shaped like an apple but taste like a pear. They have a high water content and are used mainly for sauces as they are very high in sugar. They make great sauces (vinegar or soy) for beef. Asian Pears are high in fiber and low in calories (116 per pear). They provide 7.1% of daily potassium and 13.9% of Vitamin C. They work great in salads too.

Niitaka—An Orange-Broan pear with a flesh that is juicy and sweet. Great for salads.
Olympic—A pear that has a crisp texture, much like a good apple. Offers a sweet juicy taste.
