  • 3 varieties of Asian pears:Our orchard is one of few who grow the Asian pear varieties. Asian pears are native to China, Japan and Korea. They are also grown in Australia and New Zealand. They are a fruit that has a greenish skin. It is shaped like an apple but taste like a pear. They have a high water content and are used mainly for sauces as they are very high in sugar. They make great sauces (vinegar or soy) for beef.   Asian Pears are high in fiber and low in calories (116 per pear). They provide 7.1% of daily potassium and 13.9% of Vitamin C. They work great in salads too.

 

Chojuro—A pear with a rich butterscotch flavor when tree ripened.

Niitaka—An Orange-Broan pear with a flesh that is juicy and sweet. Great for salads.

Olympic—A pear that has a crisp texture, much like a good apple. Offers a sweet juicy taste.
